Sunday, January 7
Stage 2: Pisco – Pisco
Total: 279 km – Special stage: 267 km
This morning, once is not custom, the cars opened the track and the first competitor started at 6am. This second special, the first real of this Dakar 2018, was composed of numerous dunes, small canyons hard to find and some fast tracks. The navigation was also in the spotlight on this Sunday of January and Sébastien Delaunay had to stay focused so as not to be trapped and take the buggy 2WD on the good tracks of this selective sector of 267 km.
Eugenio Amos and Sébastien Delaunay, who had no problem with the 2WD Buggy, finished in 15th place with the 2WD Buggy, ready to go!
Eugenio Amos / Sébastien Delaunay # 335 – 15th in 3h22’42 to 25’51 of the winner Després / Castera: “I do not even have a drop of sweat, comments Eugenio Amos, on arrival at the bivouac. I drove fast but without taking any risk. The first part consisted of tricky dunes, difficult to cross and sometimes, I had to use the reverse but quietly, without planting. The job comes back and I do not get upset like before. The second part was fast, as I like, and also in small canyons …
This first day was very tricky and I saw several cars that will not arrive so early in the bivouac. We had to stay focused.
In a descent of dunes arriving on the Pacific Ocean, I attended the most beautiful show ever seen in the race! A beautiful landscape! Another day spent … There are 12 days left! ”
Tomorrow, the Dakar goes further south and arrives in San Juan de Marcona.
